"Who can tell me 'ow dwarfs are different from humans?" Mr. Lane stroked his beard, his stark-blue eyes glaring at us over his glasses, as if he could stare into our souls. He probably would've been intimidating if he wasn't four feet two.
Toby's hand shot up in the air.
"Yes, Toby?"
"They're shorter?"
Mr. Lane gave him, a 'are you serious' look. "Toby, three points off for the obvious. Would anyone else like to try?"
Martyn raised his hand, causing Mr. Lane to chuckle.
"Have any good answers this time, Martyn Littlewood?"
Sparkles stifled a laugh next to him. Martyn punched his arm.
"Mr. Lane, detention him!" Sparkles shouted, laughing, dodging out of Martyn's lunge.
"Martyn!" Mr. Lane called, Sparkles sliding back into his seat.
"They enjoy mining and honey cakes?" Martyn asked.
Mr. Lane's smile told him he got it right. The bell pealed again, making most of the dozing class jump.
"I want a summary of Chapter 2 Section 1 by tomorrow! And Madia, no owls on your paper!"
Sparkles and Martyn rushed out, walking briskly through the halls to get dressed out for PE.
Kaeyi met them outside the Boy's locker room, talking lighting-fast with their PE teacher, Coach Strippin.
"Okay, okay, fine go," Coach growled. "Next time, Dream, you're running twenty miles."
Kaeyi fist-pumped. "Thanks!"
She danced towards Sparkles and Martyn, her eyes replaced with worry. "I'll explain on the way. Let's go."
